Der Sommer ist da.... / Summer is here....

... und die vielen taghellen Stunden nutze ich minutiös, um nähen zu können. Die vergangene Woche habe ich es tatsächlich geschafft, jeden Tag einen Buchstaben zu nähen, meinen Nähplatz wieder mal zu reorganisieren und aufzuräumen. Licht + Ordnung = Kreativität kann fliessen! Hier zwei der Ergebnisse der letzten Woche. Als Belohnung erhielt ich dann vor zwei Tagen ein Päckchen von einer ganz lieben Quilt-Freundin: eine liebevoll selbstgemachte Quiltfee in meinen Lieblingsfarben Grau und Blau with a Jeans bag - how cool is that!?! DANKE Gilda!! Die kleine Quiltfee hängt jetzt über meiner Nähmaschine und passt auf mich auf!

... and I used all the brightly lit hours for sewing up to every minute. Last week I really accomplished sewing one letter each day as well as cleaned up and re-organized my sewing space. Light and tidiness accelerated my creativity flow! Here are two of last weeks´ results. And as a reward I got a small parcel with a lovely, handmade quilt-fairy in my favorite colors grey and blue and a jeans bag - how cool is that?!?! Thank You Gilda!!! The little quilt-fairy is now hanging across my sewing machine, watching over me!

Das dritte Wort für meinen Quilt-Eat-Sleep-Repeat Quilt ist nun fertig, das letzte Wort folgt bis nächsten Sonntag.

I completed the third word for my quilt-eat-sleep-repeat quilt, the last word will follow next week to be finished by next Sunday.

Da ich noch nie mit Jersey genäht habe, machte ich vorsichtshalber erst mal eine Nähprobe - wie es sich herausgestellt hat, kann meine kleine PFAFF das ganz toll und ich habe mich dann mutig ans Schrägband annähen gewagt. Es war ein Klacks und gestern habe ich dann von Hand die Rückseite angenäht. Die Motive werde ich aber erst annähen, wenn ich das Vlies von Gerlinde habe - dieses werde ich auf die Rückseite des Vorderteils bügeln, um dann auf der Vorderseite die Motive aufzubügeln, von Hand zu applizieren und dann rundherum zu quilten.

I´ve never sewn jerseys, so I made a sample to be on the safe side - and as it turned out, my little Pfaff sewing machine can sew that perfectly. So I dared to sew the bias tape to the neckline of the T-shirt, yesterday I finished it by sewing the back on by hand. I will appliqué the hexagons only when I got the backing from Gerlinde - it will be ironed to the back of the front part and will stabilize when I appliqué and quilt the hexagons on this soft jersey.

Das "lovewinsheart" Herz habe ich bei SewMamaSew gefunden, wäre eigentlich FPP in einem Block, aber ich habe das Herz in Einzelteile zerlegt und EPP für mein T-Shirt daraus gemacht. 

I found the "lovewinsheart" pattern at SewMamaSew - originally it is a FPP pattern but I took it apart and made an EPP for my T-shirt.

Schlechtwetter-Nähstunden / Bad weather sewings

Das derzeitige Wetter verursachte diese Woche eine steigende Anzahl von Nähstunden, natürlich ganz in meinem Sinn. Für den "Quilt-Eat-Sleep-Repeat" Quilt habe ich das zweite Wort fertig - aus meinem Vorsatz, täglich einen Buchstaben zu nähen, ist natürlich nichts geworden. Gut Ding braucht eben Weile....

This weeks´ weather caused a growing amount of sewing hours, entirely to my taste! I finished the second line for my Quilt-Eat-Sleep-Repeat quilt. Of course, my intention to sew one letter a day has long gone. Well, Rome wasn´t built in a day....

Fehlen nur noch 11 Buchstaben! Nebenbei habe ich mit Schrägband eine meiner Lieblingshosen verschönert. Den Saum habe ich schon 2x runtergelassen, das sah dann nicht mehr so gut aus. Ich liebe das Resultat, bleibt also auf weitere Zeit eine meiner Lieblingshosen.

Only 11 more letters! I also "embellished" one of my favourite pants - I changed the hem already two times, whereby it didn´t look good anymore. With the bias tape the pants will stay as my favourites for some more time. 

Aber das T-Shirt Upcycling war dann doch nicht so einfach und schnell zu bewerkstelligen, wie die Hosenbeine. Welche Stoffe, welche Motive, wo platzieren? Also wird es noch ein bisschen dauern, vielleicht bis nächsten Sonntag?

 

To upcycle my oversized T-shirt was not so simple to achieve as the pants. Which fabrics, which pattern, where to place them? Therefore it will take a little bit longer, maybe until next Sunday?

Und zuletzt habe ich gestern die letzten der 40 Herzkissen zugenäht - ich genieße diese Arbeit, wenn es draußen donnert und regnet, für mich Entspannung pur!

And I finished closing the last of the 40 heart pillows - I savour this sewing, especially when it´s thundering and raining outside - for me: pure relaxation!

Der Sommer kann warten..... / Summer can wait....

.... solange ich genug zum Nähen habe, also habe ich auch kein Problem damit, wenn der Sommer sich nicht von seiner besten Seite zeigt. Letzten Sonntag sind wir an den See gefahren, mit genügend Handnäharbeit und Lesestoff. Aber nach zwei Stunden Sonne, Wolken, Sonne, Wolken hat dann der Regen eingesetzt.... einen Versuch war´s wert.

... as long as I have enough sewing to do. Therefore, it´s no problem at all if summer isn´t at its best behaviour.  Last Sunday we went to the lake with enough to sew by hand and lots of reading material. But after two hours of sun, clouds, sun and clouds it started to rain.... it´s been worth a try.

Unter der Woche war wettermässig auch mehr Zeit also üblich zum Nähen. Der noch fehlende Geburtstagsblock und ein kleines Dankeschön in Form von Buchstaben aus dem Buch von Julie Herman, "Alphabet Soup". Sobald man die Lineale beherrscht, macht es unheimlich Spaß, die "Puzzelteile" zuzuschneiden und anschließend zusammenzunähen. 

During the week the weather also provided more time than usual for sewing. I made the outstanding birthday block and a small thank you present, letters from the book by Julie Herman, "Alphabet Soup". As soon as you get how the rulers work it´s incredibly good fun to cut the "jigsaw pieces" and sew them together.

Das Quilten eines kleinen Blockes ist für mich die perfekte Übung. Auch um auszuprobieren, welche Nadel, welcher Faden, wo fange ich an, wie komme ich weiter.

Quilting a small block is the perfect exercise for me. Also to experiment which needle or thread to take, where to start quilting and how to get on.

Der nächste Block war in Form eines Tischsets, welches sich das Geburtstagskind in den Farben Braun und Altrosa gewünscht hat. Hier habe ich Oakshott-Stoffe verwendet und wie es sich herausgestellt hat, sind diese nicht so wie andere Stoffe zu handhaben. Somit ein weiteres "Lehrstück" mit neuen Erkenntnissen.

The next block was a table set in the colors brown and dusky pink, a group member had whished for her birthday block. I took Oakshott fabrics and it turned out that this fabric could not be handled as others. Thus, another didactic play with new findings.

Was ich heute und diese Woche mache? Ich habe diese tollen Schrägbänder gefunden und werde damit eine Hose verschönern bzw. einem mausgrauen T-Shirt ein bisschen Farbe verleihen - die Ergebnisse gibt es nächsten Sonntag!

What am I doing today and next week? I found these beautiful bias tapes and will embellish one of my pants with it as well as put some color on one of my mouse-grey T-shirts - the results will be shown next Sunday! 

Sommer, Sonne und... / Summer, sun and sewing

Kalendarisch wäre jetzt eigentlich Sommer - ich sitze aber im Pyjama, Socken und Fleecejacke an meinem Laptop und lasse die letzten 3 Näh-Monate Revue passieren: 2 Quilts für die Ausstellung Tobelbad, Quiltirol Challenge-Quilt "Farben", Nadelwelt Karlsruhe, Kurse in Tirol, Quip-Day in Hieflau, Geburtstagsblöcke.

Die nächsten 7-8 Sommerwochen gibt es folgendes: Jaybird Alphabet Soup Buchstaben, Blumen und Sterne von Hand nähen, Memory-Quilt und zwischendurch einen Sommer-Nähtag mit anderen Quilterinnen. Mitte August gibt es das "Festival of Quilts in Birmingham", dazu eine Menge Fotos über all das. 

According to the calender it´s supposed to be summer - but: I am sitting at my laptop in my PJ´s, socks and my fleece jacket and reminiscing the last 3 months of sewing: 2 quilts for the exhibition in Tobelbad, the Quiltirol-Challenge quilt "Colors", Nadelwelt Karlsruhe, workshops in Tyrol, Quip-Day in Hieflau, birthday blocks.

The next 7-8 weeks it will be: Jaybird Alphabet Soup letters, hand sewing flowers and stars, a memory quilt and in between a sewing day with other quilters. Mid August is "Festival of Quilts in Birmingham", and many pictures to see about this all.

Needleworxs

My Needleworxs-Quilt - the needles are patterns from "Whole Circle Studio", the needle on the bottom is from "Quiet Play Designs". The dark grey fabric is my favourite fabric, Michael Miller Cotton Couture, the patterned grey fabrics are birthday fabrics from Quiltgruppe Steiermark.

Der zweite Quilt für die Ausstellung war "Ein herrlicher Regentag" - ein einfacher Quilt mit viel "low volume" Stoffen und gequilteten "Regentropfen". Die Muster zur französischen Bulldoge und zum Mops sowie zum "Doggy in the Window Quilt" gibt es bei "Kid Giddy". 

Ein herrlicher Regentag - A marvellous rainy day

The second quilt for the exhibition was "A marvellous rainy day" - a simple quilt with lots of low volume fabris and quilted raindrops. The patterns for the French Bull Dog and the Pug Dog as well as the "Doggy in the Window Quilt" are from "Kid Giddy".

Die Quiltirol-Challenge habe ich zusammen mit Gilda gemacht/genäht - der Quilt ist fertig, sollte aber noch nicht veröffentlicht werden, erst bei der Ausstellung in Wörgl im September bzw. der Jahreshauptversammlung im Oktober - aber als klitzekleinen Ausschnitt hier eine kleine Kostprobe:

Farben - Colors

I teamed up with Gilda to make the Quiltirol challenge quilt "Colors" - the quilt is finished but it is not to be published before the exhibition in Woergl in September or the meeting in October - but a little teaser is allowed.

Am Abend ist das Tageslicht in meinem Nähzimmer intensiv und dauert lange an - das nutze ich, um die Blumen und Sterne zu nähen, hier zwei weitere zu meiner kleinen Kollektion:

The daylight in my sewing room is now very bright and lasts longer than usual - I use that to hand sew my flowers and stars - here are two more for my small collection:

Beim gemütlichen Quip-Day in Hieflau vor zwei Wochen hat uns Gerlinde gezeigt, wie man ein kleines, hübsches Täschchen für Visiten- oder Kundenkarten näht - zu Hause nähte meine Mutter gleich ein paar Exemplare. Ich konnte natürlich nicht hinterher hinken und nähte zwei davon, um sie dann als kleine, mit Liebe gemachte Geburtstagspräsente zu versenden.

At our Quip-Day in Hieflau two weeks ago Gerlinde has shown us how to sew small but pretty little purses for business cards or store cards. Back home my Mum went to sewing a couple of them immediately. Of course I could not lag behind and did two of them as well for small birthday presents, handmade with love.

 

Wie man Druckknöpfe mit Nieten anbringt - How to affix embossed snap fasteners

Endlich wissen wir, wie man Druckknöpfe mit Nieten anbringt, nachdem ich in Karlsruhe ein kleines Set gekauft habe, mit einer "verständlichen Anleitung" - es hat einige Probeexemplare gebraucht, bis wir das passende "Werkzeug" zusammen hatten und es nun problemlos klappt. Und endlich kann ich all die gesammelten "Reserve-Nieten-Druckknöpfe" verwenden, die bei Jeans und anderen Kleidungsstücken dabei waren und bis heute immer aufbewahrt wurden.

Finally we know how to affix all the collected spare buttons, press stubs and snaps after I bought a small set with an easy-to-understand-manual. It took several attempts until we had all the necessary tools, now it´s as easy as that. And finally we can use all those pretty spare stubs and snaps that came along with jeans and other clothes and were wisely stored until now.
