Birmingham - Festival of Quilts - Teil 3 / Part three

In Birmingham gibt es ja nicht nur unzählige Quilts anzusehen, sondern auch ebenso viele Verkaufsstände der Händler und einiger KünstlerInnen, die ihre Anleitungen verkaufen. Drei davon hatte ich schon letztes Jahr im Auge, heuer habe ich bei ihnen eingekauft und bei einer überlege ich mir sogar, nächstes Jahr einen Workshop zu besuchen.

There aren´t only countless quilts to see in Birmingham but also tons of shop dealers and some artists, selling their patterns. Three of them I already had in my mind last year, so this year I bought their patterns and with one of them I plan to do a workshop next year.

Es gibt auch einige Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen, die mit Quilts werben - Project LINUS - diesen Quilt hätte ich gerne als Kind gehabt.

Birmingham - Festival of Quilts - Teil 1 / Part one

Die Reise nach Birmingham hat wieder einmal alles beinhaltet: ein tolle Ausstellung, Quilts bis zum Mond, alte und neue Bekanntschaften, Inspirationen und Anleitungen für die kommenden Monate, wenn es wieder kühler wird.

Mein Highlight war das Wiedersehen mit Margaret, Maureen und Evlyn, den drei Mitgliedern der British Quilt Guild, die jeden Tag ihren Quiltengel-Dienst bei der Ausstellung absolviert haben und mich über die englischen Quilt-Gegebenheiten auf den neuesten Stand gebracht haben. Ein überraschendes Highlight war ein zufälliges Wiedersehen mit Sophie Zaugg aus der Schweiz (sie hat den 3. Platz bei den Contemporary Quilts gemacht) sowie ein kurzes aber angeregtes Gespräch mit Shizuko Kuroha (bei ihr habe ich vor einigen Jahren einen Workshop in Karlsruhe gemacht, der sehr nachhaltig war). 

My trip to Birminham had it all: a wonderful exhibition, Quilts to the moon and back, old and new aquaintances, inspirations and guidances for the upcoming, cooler months. 

My highlight was the reunion with Margaret, Maureen and Evlyn, the three ladies from the British Quilt Guild, doing daily stewarding at the show and filled me on the British quilt facts. A surprising highlight was the random encounter with Sophie Zaugg from Switzerland (she made 3rd place in the Contemporary Category) as well as my short but very inspiring talk to Shizuko Kuroha (I did a workshop with her in Karlsruhe a couple of years ago). 

Ich habe 300 Quilts fotografiert, beim Durchblättern und Beschriften sind noch 167 übrig geblieben (von denen, die mir am besten gefallen haben). Das wäre zuviel auf einmal, deshalb werde ich sie "portionieren". Viel Spaß und Freude!

I took pictures of about 300 quilts - after formatting them there are 167 left (of those that I liked best). It would be too much at once, so I´m going to post them in acceptable servings. Have fun and enjoy!
